How to sow your seeds mindfully

March is seed sowing month in the UK- the weather is starting to warm up and it’s light past 5:30pm!

Fill your pots with compost using your bare hands, how does the compost feel in your hands? How does it smell?  Gently tap the base of the pot on the table or the ground to knock some of the air out of the compost. Notice the noise it makes as you do this. Top your pots up with compost.

It’s seed time! Firstly, give the packet a shake- what sound do they make?

Rip open the packet, what does that sound remind you of? How does it make you feel?

Take a seed and really study it, notice its colour, the texture of its surface, does it have an unusual shape or features? How do you think these help it to grow? Does it remind you of anything?

Place it on the surface of the compost and gently press it so it contacts with the soil. Cover it lightly with some compost or vermiculite and sit it in a lasagna dish or baking tray filled with water to have a good drink.

Place on a sunny windowsill and keep the soil moist but not soaking until little green shoots start to appear. Literally the best feeling ever!
