I’m Kendall Marie Platt 🌱, a Horticultural Therapist and a busy working mum. I spent 10 years as a forensic scientist, before hitting burn out and pivoting to horticultural therapy.

I used my garden to resource myself when I was at my lowest ebb and my doom scrolling habit was out of control. Now I help other women to get off their phones and into the garden as the antidote to burnout.

For a long time now I’ve wanted to create a space where we can hold each other accountable in stepping away from the noise of the internet and learn to quiet our minds in the garden.

Without feeling shame or embarrassment that we’re not the perfect gardener (yawn). I’m fed up of the highlight reel on Instagram and the way it makes me compare every aspect of my life to others and find myself wanting. Do I need to do the gardening activities everyday?

No absolutely not. My intention is that you will have an invitation every day so that when you have a spare 20 minutes you have something ready to go. There is no rule on when you have to do them, we’re not in school here darling. There is real power in compounding the activities each day. However an activity done 3 days a week is better than doing something once a month or once a week and then nothing for months.

You might choose to carve out 20 minutes each day for yourself (i’m going to be helping you do this as part of Bloom) or you may prefer to save the activities up and do them all together or in one of our garden along sessions. The focus of Bloom is to build phone free time into your daily life and so you will be invited out into the garden every day but if you don’t manage it every day you won’t be behind.

How much support will we get from you?

Bloom is a blend of life design and gardening activities delivered in a way that makes it easy to take daily action. But I want you to feel held as you extract yourself from your phone and create your new healthy habit. So I will be in the community here on Substack at least once a day to reply to any questions posted in the comments of each activity. You are very welcome to bring your questions to our twice monthly community garden along sessions. We will also come together each season to reset and refocus on our goals for the season.

I’ve never gardened before is this right for me?

Absolutely. Bloom is for people looking to build a seasoned gardening habit that gets you off your phone regardless of gardening knowledge and experience. You’ll receive a daily activity to take to the garden alongside my guidance on how to do the activity in case you’re new to gardening.
